CHICAGO (AP): Police officers from across northwestern Indiana have escorted the body of a slain Merrillville police officer to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office in Chicago.
The Times reports a procession of about 40 squad cars accompanied the body of Officer Nickolaus Schultz as it left Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois, on Tuesday morning.
The 24-year-old Schultz was removed from life support Sunday after being shot in the head while responding to a call. The Times reports the Lowell native's parents chose to donate his organs.
Joe Hamer of the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police Critical Incident and Memorial Team says Schultz's body will be escorted by police officers to a Lowell funeral home Wednesday following an autopsy at the medical examiner's office.
