Southern Indiana Theater Leader Fatally Hit by Car

NORTH VERNON, Ind. (AP) – Police say a woman who helped lead restoration of an early 1900s theater in southern Indiana has died a few days after being hit by a car while crossing a street.

The North Vernon Police Department says 87-year-old Hulda Mae Reichenbach died Saturday at the University of Louisville trauma center.

The Tribune of Seymour reports (http://bit.ly/1qR6zp2 ) the North Vernon woman was hit Wednesday evening while walking across a street. Police say the driver told officers she didn't see Reichenbach, who was wearing dark clothing.

Reichenbach and her husband, William, led a $1.3 million renovation of North Vernon's Park Theatre Civic Center that was completed in 2003.

Police say the driver who hit Reichenbach wasn't impaired or speeding and no citations were issued.
