Trial Begins for Frankfort Man Accused of Screwdriver Stabbing

FRANKFORT, Ind. (AP) _ A trial has opened for an Indiana man accused of stabbing a 72-year-old woman and her great-granddaughter with a sharpened screwdriver outside a library.

Sixty-three-year-old Reginald Robinson faces two attempted murder charges in the 2013 incident outside the library in Frankfort. Authorities say Robinson stabbed the 4-year-old girl in the face and that she lost sight in one eye.

The great-grandmother testified Tuesday that Robinson stabbed her in the head and that she hadn't met him before the attack.

The Journal and Courier  reports court documents show Robinson's attorney plans to use an insanity defense.

Robinson could receive up to 50 years in prison for each charge of attempted murder.
