The other man, Todd D. Covington Jr., was convicted and sentenced to a 75-year prison term last year. Police say the victim survived despite being shot multiple times, including twice in the head.

Payne could get a prison sentence between 20 and 30 years, per the terms of a plea agreement. His attorney, Barry Blackard, says he expects several witnesses will testify at the sentencing.
