Construction Worker Finds Hammond Man’s Body in River

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (AP) _ The Lake County Coroner's Office says the death of a Hammond man whose body was found floating in a river likely was an accidental drowning.

Chief Deputy Coroner Scott Sefton said Thursday that nothing appeared suspicious about the death of 60-year-old Daniel Auwerda.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says a construction worker found Auwerda's body floating in the Little Calumet River Wednesday afternoon near the Indiana Toll Road in East Chicago.

The body was about 60 feet from shore in about 3 feet of water.
