20-Something Candidates Win at Least 3 Indiana Mayoral Races

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) _ Candidates in their 20s have been elected mayor in at least three Indiana cities.

Twenty-six-year-old Republican Matt Gentry won Lebanon's election with nearly two-thirds of the vote. Gentry tells The Lebanon Reporter he's ready for the learning curve of leading the 16,000-person community near Indianapolis.

Gentry is a former Indiana House Republican staffer and works for the political consulting firm Mark It Red that's led by his father Mike Gentry.

The mayoral winner in Delphi was 25-year-old independent candidate Shane Evans, who graduated this year from Indiana University's law school. Evans tells the (Lafayette) Journal & Courier his primary focus will be attracting young families to the 3,000-person city.

Voters in Frankfort re-elected Republican Mayor Chris McBarnes, who won his first term four years ago at the age of 23.

In our area, Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel won another term in office Tuesday night, but he can no longer call himself a 20-something. He's now 31.
