INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Another business group has formed to lobby for extending Indiana's civil rights protections to bar discrimination against members of the LGBT communities.
Partners in the group calling itself Indiana Competes include the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. It wants the General Assembly to adopt protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in housing, employment and public accommodations.
The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/1LaBmR5 ) the group will focus on showing how the change could affect economic development efforts.
It brings to at least three the number of coalitions supporting a change in the state's civil rights law to provide protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce last week called for extending the law to bar discrimination against people based on their LGBT status.
