MUNCIE, Ind. (AP): The president of Ball State University has resigned effective at the end of a two-month leave.

The university’s Board of Trustees announced the impending departure of Paul W. Ferguson on Monday afternoon. No reason for the exit was given in a five-paragraph statement.

A spokeswoman for the trustees says Board Chairman Rick Hall was meeting with various groups on campus Monday afternoon and was expected to discuss Ferguson’s departure later in the day. He said in the trustees’ statement that the board wished Ferguson well in his “future endeavors.”

Ferguson became president of Ball State less than 18 months ago at age 61. He previously was president of the University of Maine.

The trustees appointed Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Terry King to serve as acting president.
