LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A LaGrange County Deputy is being credited with saving a choking 7th grader Wednesday morning.

Corporal Cliff Hibbs was on hand for a special breakfast and program organized by the Lakeland Middle School Student Council to honor local law enforcement, when he noticed 7th grader Caleb Eash having trouble breathing.

It turned out the boy was choking on some food. Deputy Hibbs used the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the food from the boy’s windpipe, saving him.

He was evaluated by the school nurse and was able to resume classes for the rest of the day.
