FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Fort Wayne firefighters battled to put out a barn fire while braving the extremely cold temperatures Wednesday morning.

Our partners in news at ABC 21 report the Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to the fire around 8:15 a.m. in the 8000 block of Wheelock Road, just north of I-69.

The woman who owns the barn reports she put a heat lamp inside of it to warm her chickens. She thinks that might have been the cause of the fire.

Firefighters worked hard to put out the fire, rotating every 20 minutes. With temperatures this low, the water began freezing on the ground almost immediately, making it slippery for crews.

No injuries were reported.
