UPDATE: One dead in Tuesday night shooting, victim identified

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man is dead after a shooting in southern Fort Wayne last night.

The Fort Wayne Police Department was called to the intersection of Smith St. and Senate Ave., near Abbett Elementary School, at about 7pm. They found a man lying in the street right by the intersection in critical condition. He was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.

Police were told by witnesses as many as six gunshots were heard and two people were seen fleeing the area. A K-9 unit wasn’t able to track them down, and police are asking anyone who knows what happened to contact them.

The victim was later identified as Demarcus Lontino Hale, Jr., 18 of Fort Wayne. The Allen County Coroner’s Office reports he died of gunshot wounds, and his manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Hale, Jr. is the third homicide in Allen County for 2019.
