Accused Purdue Student Moved to Treatment Center

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A Purdue University student charged with choking a fellow student in a random on-campus attack has been admitted to a mental health treatment center for an evaluation.

Tippecanoe County court records show 21-year-old Boda Wu will be kept at the treatment center for a mental health evaluation and treatment until a judge orders otherwise.

The Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/11umRsj ) that the Chinese national posted bond last week, paving the way for his hospitalization.

A female student told police Wu approached her on campus Aug. 31 and silently wrapped a phone cord around her neck and toppled her to the ground. She told officers she had never met Wu.

Defense attorney Brian Dekker has informed court officials he intends to raise an insanity defense on Wu's behalf.
