Advocates Blast INDOT Response on Accessibility

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Advocates for the disabled say they are frustrated with the Indiana Department of Transportation and its efforts to improve accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Jan Myers tells the Journal & Courier she quit an INDOT advisory working group because it has done nothing in a year.

She says she's frustrated that Indiana still doesn't have a transition plan 20 years after the act was adopted and says INDOT has not allowed adequate input from the disabled at the advisory group's meetings.

INDOT spokesman Will Wingfield says the group members are volunteers and that being on the panel takes a lot of time.

Myers says she plans to continue seeking accessibility on a local level.
