ALLEN COUNTY, IND. (WOWO) A juvenile bicyclist was seriously injured Monday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on West Cedar Canyons Road west of Kell Road, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 4:37 p.m. after dispatchers received reports of a personal injury crash involving a motor vehicle and a child riding a bicycle.
Crash occurred near Pufferbelly Trail crossing
When officers and medics arrived, they located a white Chevy Impala and the bicyclist on West Cedar Canyons Road near the intersection with the Pufferbelly Trail.
The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Authorities later determined the juvenile had suffered life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation details released
According to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, the preliminary investigation indicates the bicyclist was traveling northbound on the Pufferbelly Trail and failed to stop for traffic traveling on West Cedar Canyons Road.
Investigators say the white Chevy Impala was traveling eastbound on West Cedar Canyons Road when it struck the bicyclist.
