MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) – Amtrak says one of its passenger trains faced long delays and was eventually forced to a standstill by trees felled by Sunday's severe weather outbreak.

WOOD-TV and the Grand Rapids Press report that the train carrying 93 passengers was en route from Chicago to Grand Rapids, Mich., when it struck a fallen tree Sunday night near Michigan City, Ind. Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm says that collision caused an hour-and-a-half delay.

But the train was halted again early Monday near Holland, Mich., because of a downed tree and passengers were eventually taken by bus to Grand Rapids, arriving about 4:30 a.m. Monday.

Kulm tells the Grand Rapids Press there were so many fallen trees on tracks east of Holland, Mich., it was impossible for the train to continue its journey.
