Man Sentenced For Killing Terre Haute Woman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ A man has been sentenced to prison for killing his then-girlfriend's grandmother during an attack insider her home near Terre Haute.

The Vigo County judge told 32-year-old Matthew Cook he committed a cowardly and heinous act in killing 65-year-old Shirley Moyer. Authorities say Moyer was found dead last October in her home at a trailer park south of Terre Haute, a few doors away from where Cook was living with Moyer's sister and granddaughter.

The Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1vMCZSD ) family members told the judge Tuesday that Moyer was known for helping her neighbors and performing in community theater.

Cook was sentenced to 45 years in prison on a murder charge for Moyer's death, plus 10 years for a separate burglary last year.
