Auburn Hospital Says Tests Find No Bacteria

AUBURN, Ind. (AP) – Officials at DeKalb Health hospital say tests on its water show no signs of bacteria after it halting admissions for two days over worries about the presence of the bacteria that cause Legionnaire's disease.

Tests completed by a New Jersey laboratory were 100 percent negative for Legionella or any other bacteria.

The discovery of trace amounts of Legionella caused the Auburn hospital to halt all admissions last weekend while the water system was sanitized. Some patients remained at the hospital about 20 miles north of Fort Wayne during that time.

The Star of Auburn reports the hospital lifted all water restrictions Wednesday evening.

Officials say a patient who died at the hospital in October tested positive for Legionella bacteria.
