HOBART, Ind. (AP) — Authorities in northwest Indiana say human bones found in a wooded area behind a strip mall in Hobart have been identified as a 57-year-old man who walked away from work release in 2012.

Hobart police Sgt. Jeremy Ogden tells The Times of Munster the remains found Sept. 20 have been identified as George Roberts. Roberts' last known address was in Kingsbury, about 40 miles east of Gary.

Ogden says that although police have determined the identity of the skeletal remains, the cause of death remains under investigation. He says police don't have evidence indicating the death was suspicious.

Police say Roberts was convicted of several crimes, including armed robbery and auto theft. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison following an armed robbery conviction in 2007.
