Ball State Students Release Ball Brothers Film

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP): A group of Ball State University students has premiered a new documentary about the influence their school's namesakes had on the Muncie area.

“A Legacy Etched in Glass: The Ball Brothers in Muncie'' opened Thursday evening at Muncie's Minnetrista Museum. The documentary details the impact the five Ball brothers had when they moved their glass-making company from Buffalo to Muncie in 1885.

The brothers relied on large pockets of natural gas found in eastern Indiana to expand their operation through the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The film explores the lives of the brothers, their wives and other relatives. It also examines the family's wide-ranging philanthropic efforts in Muncie over the past 120 years.
