Banquet to Honor Plainfield Teen Pilot, Father

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (AP) _ The annual banquet hosted by an Indianapolis-based organization will honor a 17-year-old pilot and his father who attempted to fly around the world raising money for children's education.

The Seeds of Learning fundraiser will celebrate the legacy of Haris and Babar Suleman, as well as their dedication to literacy and education. The Plainfield pair set out on their 30-day global mission this summer. It ended with a Pacific Ocean plane crash that left Haris Suleman dead and Babar Suleman missing.

Haris Suleman had hoped to set the record for the fastest circumnavigation around the world in a single-engine airplane with the youngest pilot in command. His journey also was a fundraiser to help build schools in his father's native Pakistan.

The event, which is set to be held Saturday night at Plainfield High School, will raise funds for schools in underprivileged areas.
