INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana's largest beer distributor is ramping up a new challenge to state law in its effort to also enter the hard liquor business.
Indianapolis-based Monarch Beverage Co. has accused the state Alcohol and Tobacco Commission of letting politics influence its decisions and the agency's chairman of prejudice against the company.
Monarch has filed documents seeking a liquor wholesaler's permit for a separate corporate entity, but the Indianapolis Business Journal reports the commission has already notified the company it intends to deny the request.
Monarch CEO Phil Terry says if the request is denied, the company expects a court challenge. Monarch has filed four previous lawsuits over the law and has unsuccessfully lobbied legislators for changes.
