Body of Missing Chicago Man Found in Lake Michigan

WHITING, Ind. (AP) _ The body of a Chicago man who vanished in May when a boat caught fire in Lake Michigan has been found along the lake's southern shoreline.

The Lake County Coroner's Office says the body that washed up Monday on Whiting Beach was identified as 30-year-old Orest Sopka through medical records from a previous surgery.

Sopka was one of four people aboard a 33-foot cabin cruiser that sank May 31 after it caught fire near Chicago's Navy Pier.

The Post-Tribune reports the lone survivor of the crash, a 29-year-old man, was found wrapped in life preservers about 12 hours after the boat sank.

The two other passengers, 26-year-old Chicago attorney Ashley Haws and an unidentified woman in her 20s, were found dead in the days after the accident.
