Boy Found Locked Out of Indianapolis Home While Mom Slept

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Authorities are investigating after a 5-year-old boy was found locked out of his Indianapolis home in the cold without a jacket or shoes.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the boy was wandering around outside, looking for help after being locked out of his home Monday evening. The temperature was -2 degrees with wind chill at the time.

Officers arrived at the home and attempted to get a response from someone inside. After knocking on the door, an officer looked through the blinds and reported seeing the boy's mother asleep on the couch. Police say they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the home after the woman answered the door.

The Department of Child Services removed the 5-year-old and his younger brother from the home.

The mother hasn't been arrested.
