UPDATED: Spy Run closed at Superior due to Fatal Crash

FORT WAYNE, IND. (WOWO): Spy Run was closed this morning at about 6:30 due to a fatal traffic crash at Superior. Fort Wayne Police were on scene and said more details will be released as soon as they confirm information. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area.

**UPDATED STORY FOLLOWS**

A pedestrian was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle fleeing police in Fort Wayne. The incident began at approximately 6:02 a.m. near Lawton Place and Griswold Drive when officers attempted to stop a vehicle that failed to comply.

The driver continued fleeing, circling the area and traveling eastbound on E. Fourth Street. The vehicle struck a pedestrian at Spy Run Avenue and also side-swiped another car before the driver abandoned the vehicle in the 1400 block of Spy Run Avenue and fled on foot. Police later located the suspect hiding in a nearby backyard, recovering a handgun he had discarded during the pursuit.

The adult male pedestrian struck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the side-swiped vehicle was unharmed, and the fleeing suspect sustained no injuries.

Spy Run Avenue between E. Superior Street and E. Fourth Street remains closed as investigators continue to process the scene. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased and the official cause of death. Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect or potential charges, pending completion of interviews.
