INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The federal government could dig up the remains of felons mistakenly buried with full military honors under legislation introduced in the U.S. House.
 
Rep. Susan Brooks filed the Alicia Dawn Koehl Respect for National Cemeteries Act Tuesday. It's named after an Indianapolis apartment manager fatally shot by Michael LeShawn Anderson, who later received full military burial benefits from the Veterans Administration.
 
Anderson was buried in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich., in June 2012 after taking his own life following a shooting rampage in which three others also were wounded.
 
The VA notified Indiana's congressional delegation July 30 that it would not disinter Anderson because it doesn't have the authority to do so.
 
The Brooks bill is the companion to legislation introduced by Sens. Dan Coats and Joe Donnelly.
