EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Officials in Indiana's largest city on the Ohio River say they expect remnants of the West Virginia chemical spill to reach there on Monday.

Leaders of the Evansville water utility say they're confident the chemical will be mostly diluted by then.

Water utility director Allen Mounts tells the Evansville Courier & Press he believes the city's water will remain safe to drink, but the department is checking with communities further upstream.

Some 300,000 people in West Virginia were told not to drink or wash with tap water after the Jan. 9 spill of a chemical used in coal processing.

Officials said Thursday the chemical had passed the Cincinnati area's stretch of the Ohio River.
