City Crews to Start Street Line Painting in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, IND. (WOWO) The City of Fort Wayne will begin its annual street line painting program on May 18, officials said, and drivers are being urged to exercise caution near work crews.

Program overview

The Traffic Operations Department said the program is part of routine maintenance to enhance visibility and safety on roadways. Line painting helps guide motorists, delineate lanes, and supports safer travel throughout the community.

Safety reminders for drivers

Officials emphasized several precautions for drivers near painting crews:

  • Do not drive over wet yellow or white paint lines.
  • Reduce speed when approaching or passing line painting equipment.
  • Maintain a safe following distance from painting trucks.
  • Obey all traffic control devices and personnel directing traffic.
  • Be aware that cones or markers may not indicate every wet stripe.
  • Lines may remain wet even if paint trucks are not visible.

Importance of road markings

Road markings provide essential guidance for motorists, especially in areas with changing road layouts or low-light conditions. The city thanked the public for cooperating with safety measures to protect both crews and drivers.

Forward-looking note

The program is scheduled to begin May 18 and will continue as crews move through designated areas. Motorists are advised to plan for minor delays and follow posted safety instructions while the work is underway.
