SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend was filled over the weekend with people making a last visit before its doors closed for good.

Hall officials estimate it had about 4,000 visitors as its admission price was cut to $2 for the final days on Saturday and Sunday.

The closing comes three years after the National Football Foundation announced it was moving the hall to Atlanta following years of low attendance since opening in 1995.

Operations director Mark Maurer tells the South Bend Tribune that he was sad over the weekend wondering why such large crowds hadn’t shown up before.

City officials are trying to sell the building. Visitor John Milliken tells WSBT-TV that it’s a beautiful building and he hopes it isn’t torn down.
