INDIANA, (WOWO): Come July 1st, a new state law will help Indiana realtors and homebuyers learn whether properties have been contaminated by methamphetamine labs.

Indiana State Police will oversee a registry of homes and apartments where authorities say meth has been made. The properties will remain on the publicly available list until they've been decontaminated.

Maggie McShane is Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the Indiana Association of Realtors and says the registry is a big win for homebuyers. She says it’ll allow realtors to reveal more about homes and prospective homebuyers will have greater protection. McShane adds the registry is important given the mobile nature of meth-making which she says can take place in any community.

When it comes to actual cleanup, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management has a list of qualified professionals and inspectors.
