Madison County Coroner Marian Dunnichay released the cause of death for Linda Speer of Elwood on Thursday.

Investigators believe the slaying occurred sometime between late Sunday night and early Monday afternoon. Her daughter found Speer's body Tuesday night. Speer lived alone.

Speer's neighbors say they're shocked by her death. Judy Shaw tells The (Anderson) Herald Bulletin says “it just boggles'' her mind that someone would kill Speer. She says the woman would do anything for anybody.''

No arrests have been made.

Elwood is about 40 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
