Deadline Brings Crush of Indiana Coverage Applicants

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana health care coverage applicants are flooding advocates with requests for help on the final day for enrolling in plans under the federal health overhaul.
 
Lucinda Nord of the Indiana Association of United Ways has been tracking enrollment throughout the day. She says many federal coverage navigators who usually join her on a weekly call couldn't do so Monday because they're too busy with clients.
 
High volumes of web traffic caused more problems with the federal website throughout the day. Indiana is one of many states sending residents through the federal exchange.
 
As long as applicants got started Monday, they'll have at least through April to finish. But those who didn't face fines if uncovered.


Some questions remain. It's uncertain whether Indiana will expand coverage through its state-run health program.
