Drugs Blamed in Death of North Vernon Man Seen Outside Hospital

NORTH VERNON, Ind. (AP) – A coroner says a man found unresponsive on the grounds of a southern Indiana hospital died from an apparent drug overdose.
 
The Jennings County coroner tells The Tribune of Seymour he is awaiting toxicology test results on 53-year-old Gary Fields of Seymour to determine what type of drugs were involved.
 
North Vernon police say officers were called to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital, where Fields was found about 1:45 a.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead about an hour later.
 
Police say an investigation was continuing into the death in the city about 60 miles south of Indianapolis.
