ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — A former Elkhart County jail worker has been busted for allegedly stealing thousands from inmates.

Haley Atherton, was a booking specialist, now booked herself after surrendering on charges of theft and official misconduct.

Investigators say she created fake debit cards using funds from released inmates-spending some on meals and a car.

She’s out on bond after admitting the scheme to detectives
