ELKHART COUNTY, IND. (WOWO) An Elkhart man is facing multiple preliminary charges after police say he was involved in a crash with a horse-drawn buggy and then left the scene, sending the buggy driver to the hospital.
According to law enforcement, the crash happened Tuesday on State Road 13 at County Road 24, just south of Middlebury according to WSBT.
Crash details released by police
Police say a pickup truck driven by 66-year-old Edward Herr was traveling behind a horse-drawn buggy when the collision occurred.
Investigators allege Herr was following too closely when his truck struck the rear of the buggy, causing it to flip onto its side.
The driver of the buggy was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Officials did not immediately release the extent of those injuries.
Arrest and charges
Authorities say Herr was arrested on preliminary charges including:
- Operating while intoxicated
- Leaving the scene of a crash causing injury
Police have not released additional details about potential court dates or whether further charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
