EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Some Evansville businesses are offering alternative spots for 30 life-sized crosses after the filing of a lawsuit against plans for the display on public land along the Ohio River.

             The crosses are to be decorated by Bible school children, and city officials have given a church permission to place them along the river for two weeks in August.

             Evansville Garage Doors changed its electronic sign along a busy street to read “Place the cross here.” Owner Jeff Rothschild tells WFIE-TV that his business would give the display more visibility.

             An attorney for West Side Christian Church says it appreciates the public support but is proceeding with its plans for the riverfront display.

             The lawsuit says the display violates Supreme Court rulings involving separation of church and state.
