Ex-Indiana Blind School Teacher Strikes Plea Deal

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A former teacher at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired has pleaded guilty to a single count of sexual misconduct with a minor after allegedly having sex with a student.

The Indianapolis Star reports 61-year-old Al Lovati agreed to plead guilty and prosecutors dropped two other sexual misconduct counts, three child seduction counts and one official misconduct count.

A probable cause affidavit says the female student told detectives she and Lovati had sex while attending a conference in Florida and engaged in other sexual acts on several occasions after classes at the Indianapolis school. The incidents occurred between August 2012 and March 2013.

A telephone call to Lovati's Indianapolis home seeking comment was hung up on.

School officials fired the computer technology teacher last September.
