GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities in northern Indiana say a former police officer shot and killed a former girlfriend in a parking lot before taking his own life.
 
  They say 51-year-old John Eric Haitsma killed 48-year-old Millicent Morros and then himself shortly before 8 a.m. Monday in a downtown parking lot in Goshen, where both resided. The shooting occurred after a brief discussion between the two. Morros was on her way to work as a paralegal with a law firm at the time.
 
  Police say the two formerly were in a relationship together.
 
  They say Haitsma resigned from the Goshen Police Department in 1998 to run a landscaping business in the city about 25 miles southeast of South Bend.
