FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — A Fort Wayne resident escaped safely Monday afternoon after a house fire on Central Drive, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

Crews were called to 3320 Central Drive and found smoke coming from the front of the home. Firefighters extinguished a small fire in a bedroom and had it under control within 10 minutes.

One person was inside at the time but got out safely. The occupant was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation and did not need to be taken to the hospital, officials said.

The fire department noted the home’s smoke detectors were working properly and reminded residents to regularly check their alarms.

FWPD, NIPSCO, AEP, NCC, and TRAA assisted at the scene.
