GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A single vehicle crash this afternoon in Grant County, took the life of a Florida woman.

It happened this afternoon at approximately 1:55 p.m. That’s when officers from the Indiana State Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene on southbound I-69 near the 265 mile marker.

According to police reports, 57-year-old Dixie Burgauer, was driving southbound, when for an unknown reason, the vehicle went of the road and hit a tree. The crash impact ignited a fire engulfing the car. 

Burgauer was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed Burgauer may have had a medical issue which contributed to her to driving off the road. Officers believe she died prior to the car catching fire. 

The investigation is still ongoing.
