FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne basketball standout Myah Epps is continuing her recovery nearly two months after a rollover crash that left her seriously injured and fighting for her life.
The crash happened shortly after Epps completed her high school basketball career. Now, as she celebrates graduation with family and friends, she is reflecting on a recovery journey that has tested her both physically and emotionally.
Epps said she has little memory of the crash itself, explaining that she only remembers waking up after surgery and seeing loved ones by her side.
Her father, Lonnie Epps, recalled rushing to the crash scene after receiving a phone call and focusing on one thing above all else — his daughter’s survival.
Since then, Epps has undergone physical therapy and treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. While she is not yet ready to return to competitive play, she has begun practicing basketball skills and working on layups as part of her rehabilitation.
Epps says watching others play has been difficult at times, but she remains motivated by her long-term goal of continuing her basketball career at the University of Louisville.
Family members say her positive attitude throughout the recovery process has been inspiring, especially considering the severity of her injuries.
Epps says the experience has given her a new appreciation for life, family and the importance of making the most of every day.
As her recovery continues, the Epps family is celebrating milestones they know could have easily been lost, grateful for the opportunity to move forward together.
