Fort Wayne, Ind. (WOWO): The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is being honored and observed in a special event in downtown Fort Wayne.

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. day, which has been held every year since 1983 in observance of Dr. King’s work protesting racial discrimination in federal and state laws and to honor his birthday.

He would’ve been 90 this year, and the Dr. King Unity Day celebration at the Grand Wayne Center features free health screenings, local vendors, a discussion panel, and family activities from 9:30am until 4:30pm.

Other events around town include a day of service at the University of St. Francis, and many groups are offering volunteer opportunities.
