FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne Police Department is trying to fight a new synthetic version of Xanax.

Thursday detectives were made aware of a drug overdose case involving an 18-year-old man who had taken what he thought was Xanax, but was actually a synthetic version called synthetic benzodiazepine that’s a lot stronger and acts much faster.

The 18-year-old is in stable condition at a local hospital, but police say they’ve seen two other overdose cases in the past two weeks involving the synthetic, and neither of those people survived.

Police say you should watch out for the fake, especially if you’re a young adult or teenager, which seems to be the groups most targeted by those peddling the drug.
