Fort Wayne Police Using Body Cameras

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): As the nation continues focus on police behavior and police shootings the call for body cameras on officers is increasing.

Officials with the Fort Wayne Police Department say they've been using them for a while, in limited capacity. Currently two officers who serve warrants have the devices.

A report in from the News-Sentinel, the department says they'll spend up to $30 thousand dollars a year to equip the force and continue to add cameras adding until every officer has one.

The cameras are hands free, waterproof and use smartphone technology to transmit for cloud storage or even social media.

That means they'll keep adding units until every officer has a camera. In the meantime, they are figuring how how to store the data collected.
