Resolution Approved to Ask to Name Portion of U.S. 24 in Honor of Phyllis Pond

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County Board of Commissioners has approved a resolution asking the state's General Assembly to name a portion of U.S. Highway 24 in honor of late Representative Phyllis Pond of New Haven. Pond, who was the longest-serving female legislator in Indiana history, died in September. The commissioners noted that Pond was a big advocate for the U.S. 24 Fort to Port project between New Haven and the Indiana-Ohio state line, “which improves access and safety, and promotes economic development across northeastern Indiana and northern Ohio.” The commissioners asked that the section between U.S. 30 east of New Haven and State Line Road to be designated as the “Representative Phyllis J. Pond Memorial Highway.”
