Fort Wayne preparing for plastic duck invasion Saturday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): About 18,000 plastic ducks will invade the St. Joseph River in Fort Wayne this weekend, but there’s a perfectly good reason for that.

They’ll be “racing” in the annual Duck Race to benefit SCAN, which stands for Stop Child Abuse and Neglect.

You can sponsor a duck for 5 dollars or get a “duck deal” where you can get multiple ducks and save. “Duck deals” are 1 for $5, 5 for $20, 13 for $50, 25 for $90, 50 for $160, or 100 for $300. Ducks can be purchased in person at SCAN at 500 W. Main Street until 4 p.m. on Friday, June 17.

The top duck will earn the sponsor $5,000.

12,500 ducks have been sold, raising over $159,000 so far, according to 21Alive. Their goal is $202,000.

The festivities begin at 7 p.m. at Johnny Appleseed Park, with races at 8 p.m. Events include carnival games, bounce houses, face painting, and live music.There will be food trucks, a beer garden and fireworks.
