FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne race track has a new name for a new season.

Baer Field Speedway is now Baer Field Motorsports Park. The name change comes after what proprietors Dave and Jody Muzzillo call the successful re-opening of their 1/2-mile and 3/8th-mile racing facilities, dirt track, and the addition of a truck and tractor pulling track.

“We look forward to bringing our loyal fans and racers into a new era, and hopefully some new fans and new racers as well to the world of short track racing,” Dave Muzzillo said in a release, “We have a lot of goals this season which include a focus on our traditional brand of exciting racing, as well as expanding our creative vision and offering affordable family entertainment for 2016 and many years to come.”

The dirt track will also feature a Friday night go-kart program, beginning May 6th, featuring some of the best young racers in the midwest. The go-karts will also be in action on Saturdays with “Asphalt Summer” taking place on the 1/10th mile track pavement track located inside the 1/2 and 3/8th miles.

The 2016 racing campaign gets underway on Saturday, April 16th with “Fan Appreciation Day” offering free general admission to all patrons, with the show beginning at a special time of 4 P.M. The normal race start time of 6:30 P.M. will begin on May 7th.
