FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne woman will spend the next three years in prison for neglecting her 3-month-old son.

34-year-old Jennifer Born was also sentenced to three years probation and three years “community placement” for the traumatic brain injuries her son received on October 18th, 2015. Prosecutors say her boyfriend shook the child that day, causing hemorrhages, retinal bleeding, and more.

Instead of getting medical attention, Born instead got her children ready to go the park, according to the News Sentinel. The boyfriend, Victor Rivera, was found guilty of neglect last week.

The boy, who now suffers from shaken baby syndrome, has stunted growth and his caregiver says his cry now “sounds different.”

Born had been investigated four prior times by Family and Children’s Services.
