Funeral for 2-Year-Old South Bend Boy on Sunday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Funeral arrangements are set for a 2-year-old South Bend boy who was killed by what police say appears to have been a stray bullet from a gunfight between two rival groups.

Police say John Swoveland Jr. was struck by the bullet while playing in a front yard of a South Bend home with his 7-year-old sister shortly after 6 p.m. No arrests have been made in the shooting.

Family members are asking the public to help people find the people involved in the gunfight. The boy's great aunt, Dianne Perkins, says she hopes whoever fired the shots will take responsibility .

The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel in South Bend. A trust fund has been started in the boy's memory.
