FW Officer in Serious Condition After Late-Night Crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Just after 10:00 P.M. last night Fort Wayne Police responded to an accident involving a police officer. Police got to the scene of Wayne Trace, near Drexel Avenue, to find the officer stuck inside the vehicle. The Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority helped in extracting the officer from the vehicle. Medics took him to a local hospital in serious condition. The officer was driving on Wayne Trace, responding to a call, when, for an unknown reason, the officer lost control of the squad car and left the road, then hit a small tree and pole on the side of the road. Wayne Trace was closed while officers investigated. It does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. Officer McEachern is in serious condition at a local hospital.
