FWPD Detective: Gun violence leveling off

FORT WAYNE (WOWO): A detective with the Fort Wayne Police department says that community involvement is helping quell gun violence in the Summit City.
Detective Tim Russel told our partners in news, 21Alive, a number of programs have helped. He also pointed out that prayer and just convincing people to speak up can all be part of the reason.
Saturday, Russel was part of a Gun Amnesty Day at the Fort Wayne Urban League. The NAACP and Men of Action also were there. The purpose of the event, he says wasn’t to take away guns, but just make Fort Wayne a little safer.

The Journal-Gazette reported 26 guns were collected.
